I was seriously interested in mushrooms for a while in primary school. Our school was out in the bush, next to this roadside reserve and a small state park. Apparently there was some rare fungi that grew in it. I remember the sticky ink-caps that grew on the running track, this little red mushroom that looked like chewing gum and shrivelled up a day after you picked it, puff balls that shot spores all over whatever touched them, big-arse bug-eaten boletus that we were told were good to eat. I never believed that. I wonder if it still rains enough there to support all this stuff.
