I've been sticked (stuck?) twice now. So I guess I better get on with the gut-spillin.
Yeah, I like music. Sure. I listen to it sometimes. It makes me happy. Happy! I've got five-point-five gigs of the stuff in mp3. There's another half gig or so lying around in cds, but that doesn't count because it's not on my pc due to me becoming tired of it.
The last CD I bought was Thickfreakness by the Black Keys. It rocks. They rock. I bought it when I had a job and all that. It was one of the few good things that came out of all that nonsense.
Right now I'm listening to miracle drug by AC Newman. I think I ranted drunkenly one night that Mister Newman was like 'The Foofighters if they weren't so crap' which I think is pretty accurate.
Five songs that mean a lot to me, or that I listen to a lot? Man, only five? I'll give it a shot.
1) Frittering by Mercury Rev. It's a pretty simple song but gets right into my bones. If I listen to it once it's stuck with me for the rest of the day, burrowing its way around my skull, that chorus turning over and over.
2) In the Morning of the Magicians by the Flaming Lips. I know it's stated in the lyrics, but this is like waking up. And then there's the inexplicable applause in the background.
3) Venus by Television. It's a song about mis-spent youth, which is something I know a hell of a lot about. The imagery is surreal and the way the guitar responds to Tom's lament cuts are brilliant. And I just love the way the bastard denies feeling in the wrong for any of what he's done.
4) The Tain by the Decemberists. Yeah, I'm fucken cheatin here, but I've only got five choices so I'm taking the longest song in my collection. It's a seventeen minute retelling of the traditionally Irish story of the Cattle Raid of Cooley. It sounds traditional in places, it totally does rip off Black Sabbath in others, and I like it a lot.
5) You Should be Ashamed, Seamus by Mclusky. This is the song I listen to when I'm in a bad mood and want to make it worse. It doesn't have a melody, just a drum, a bassline and and Falco screaming about how crap people are. And it fucking works. So yeah, there's me and my music. The stick can go fuck itself, though. Unless someone wants recursive stick. Then they can ask me in person.
