Man, so I've just finished reading the Watchmen. It's so fucking good. I love how there's so many little things going on under the surface, which paraphrases one thing the guy selling newspapers says to his 'pal' who sits there reading pirate comics.
Gotta talk about Rorschach. He's a masked vigilante, the kind who's all secret identity and no super powers. The mask is where he gets his name: a moving 'ink blot' that somehow stays symmetrical. Imagine Batman if instead of a rich dude beating up people on a 50 year revenge bender, you've got some short, ugly son of a prostitute who's decided he's what's going to fix the world one piece of depravity at a time. Imagine what would happen to someone like that if they stuck with it for twenty years. Sure as hell wouldn't be pretty, and neither's Rorschach. It's funny though, in the end he's the only one who doesn't sell themselves.
