For me the most difficult, most annoying part of programming is naming things. If you've got just one thing you've gotta name that's cool. But when you have a bunch of similar things that all do slightly different things it can get fucking annoying. Especially when to be an effective programmer you have to give things 'meaningful' names. Fucked if I know what that means. Variations on similar themes are arbitrary and can be just as confusing as opaque variable names like 'x' and 'y'.
