Saw Fahrenheit 9/11 last night thanks to the magic of the internet. It seemed more like two movies that'd been put together. The first part was about how crappy the Bush 'regime' is, something a lot of people are already aware of. Yeah, Bush is a dummy Texas oil playboy who ended up in the Whitehouse thanks to his dynastic connections. That's not really news. I don't think the aim was really to show how illegitimate and illegal Bush's presidency is, more to give a foundation for how ridiculous things are in the second part.
The second part was about the reality of war, like an antidote to Fox news. It showed the Democrats giving themselves over to be vassals of the Republicans when it came to the war effort. But the main focus wasn't money. Moore went and interviewed the kids over there. He showed soldiers who've become sociopaths, talking about how they play loud music while they're on patrol to keep thier edge up so they can kill people. Soldiers who are just fucken frightened and want to get home were also talked to. One guy, some corporal in the Marines was interviewed about how if he were sent back to Iraq he'd refuse no matter the consequences. Then there was the poor woman who was trying to be patriotic but had lost her son. Moore was trying to say 'look what you're doing to your children'. What some people would call 'bleeding heart bullshit', there was a little of it but it was fairly well hidden behind the message that Bush is killing and ruining the young people of America.
