Seriously, though, I wonder what there is in the way of software that can produce interesting synesthesia that's not a dumb visualisation plugin for winamp or whatever.

there are some pretty decent winamp ones but you have to wade through a sea of trash to find them. but, yeah, a non winamp one would be cool.. i'd like to see something along those lines that is generated based on incoming internet traffic.. that'd be something.
you could tie it in with some sort of firewall and have an abstract visual representation of your network/internet security.
