I went for a walk up to the store on Wattletree Road to get some milk before. It wasn't open but damn was it cold outside. I've been going by the train station early in the morning a fair bit lately, and there's always people there. Yesterday morning there was an Asian girl with a basket and a guy in labourer's clothes. Even though there wasn't a train for an hour, there was a guy there this morning, limping up and down the platform. I think it was just me and him there. He was wearing business clothes and had a bald head that looked like he'd waxed it. He was taking slow, shuffling steps as he paced.
On the way back I noticed some old writing that had been scratched into a block of drying cement. It was just on the corner of Glenferrie Road and one of the alleys that lead off it, outside where the sun-tanning bar was and near the crossing we take to get to Malvern Central. It said 'Paul Keating, class traitor'. I think. I might be getting that wrong. It must be pretty old because no one's cared about Paul Keating since the middle of the last decade.
