The trip back sucked, but that's a given on any trip between Portland and Melbourne. I was in a small cabin with someone sitting across from me until Colac, so I had my legs cramped up for over two hours. I kept myself distracted for a while by reading the copy of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas I took from Nik to keep me occupied on the journey. Unfortunately Hunter S. Thompson's writing style is very easy to read and I was interested in what he was saying, so I got through the whole thing in only a few hours.
Another unfortunate effect of my reading choice was that I was laughing a lot. There were a few scenes that gave me the giggles, including the one where Duke fills the Whale's tires to 100 pounds of pressure claiming that they're experimental and it'll improve handling, while just wanting to destroy things. Or the bit where they're driving down the strip with Duke's attorney trying to sell heroin to some rednecks, then insulting and swearing at them randomly when the rednecks try to get away.
One of the worst thing you can do when laughing in public is to try and hold it in. Especially when it's completely involuntary. I ended up twitching, shaking and making whimpering noises. It's got me what the other people in the cabin thought about it. Maybe they thought I was having a minor seizure and I'd either die or recover and either way I wouldn't be thier problem anymore. I'm not really sure that I should have laughed out loud, though. That probably just would have panicked them. Panicking commuters are the worst.
