I went for a walk into town this morning to get a couple of things. I'm gradually building up a supply of extra clothes, towels and sheets. The sort of thing I'll need when I move out.
Portland only has two sets of traffic lights if you don't count the school crossing near the ring road. There's the ones up on Must Street near where Nik's Mum used to live. And then there's the ones in the centre of town that were put in after a fatal car accident way back when I was in early primary school.
I was walking by the ones in the centre of town when my foot clipped and sent skidding something that was lying on the ground. It sounded like metal so I looked down and realised it was a car key. It had one of those manufacturer's brands on the base. At first I thought about taking it into the police station, but then decided it'd be more useful to hand into a nearby store in case someone remembered where they'd been when they'd lost it. The woman in the store looked shocked when I handed it over, and I tried to mumble something about if someone came looking for it she should give it to them. Then told me 'But it's mine.' She still looked a bit shocked when I left, but was I ever grinning.
