So I went for a walk down the street. The weather's nice, but the whole town smells of shit because of the livestock ship in the harbour. Even though it's school holidays there weren't many kids around, probably all at the pool or the beach or something.
There was a moment of comedy where my bag kept setting off Target's shoplifter alarm at the store exit. The woman was more distressed about it than me. We established it was the bag by letting her walk through with it and setting off the alarm again. I tried to show her that all the pockets on the bloody thing were empty and she assured me it happens all the time and that there's probably a sensitised strip hidden somewhere on the bag by the original store. I just checked then and I couldn't find it.
The Portland bookstore is crappy. I couldn't find one damned thing I'd gone in there seeking. They only have one wall of new paperbacks with four spaces the same size full of shitty coffee table books on sport and health. I ended up buying something by Tim Winton, which I guess is okay.
