This is bullshit. The politicians know why the cost of housing is increasing so quickly. It's one of those 'the rich are getting richer' things. When money accumulates at the top the people with that money are prepared to pay more for things in short supply, such as land and housing in capital cities. The only way I can think of stopping it is enforced blue-collar wage increases, but that'd probably do bad things to inflation or something.
Hell, an interview on the news about this stuff the other night convinced me its not worth voting in the next election. The shadow treasurer laid out some of Labor's plans for combating the crisis and none of it made any sense in the long run. So we have a group of inept bunglers on one hand and under-handed trough-feeders on the other. Great. I'm moving to Europe.
