Reviews of books, movies, music, whatever, on blogs always remind me of American Psycho. The narrative in that occasionally strays from describing his terminally shallow lifestyle with its asides into murder, and gives us reviews on banal eighties music like Genesis and Huey Lewis. The reviews sit by themselves without reference to what's going in the rest of Patrick Bateman's world, and give us more insight into his psychosis than his subject. Though, they do give the rest of the novel some kind of grounding in the eighties that doesn't rely on the reader's knowledge of New York and fashion.
