Let this be a warning to anyone travelling to Australia. A local drunk was visciously mauled by a koala a coupla weeks ago here. See, he was walking along minding his own, very drunk business in the early hours of the morning and saw a koala. In his drunken state he thought it was a dog and went to pat it.
When a koala is scared on the ground, it'll usually run up the nearest tree. Unfortunately koalas aren't very bright and for them 'tree' means 'anything vertical'. In this case the koala was scared and mistook the drunk's leg for a tree. It mauled the drunk so badly he required hospitalisation.
So, yeah. Koalas are everywhere, they're dangerous, and they're waiting to get you.
