I'm reading Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut. Normally there's this grain of hope that runs through the stuff that he writes, that people generally are stupid but they're also generally okay if they don't give into hatred and ignorance. Nearly every character in the book so far has been a creature of both.
