I used to catch lizards a lot when I was a kid. These were little skinks that I'd ferry in an old margerine container to a fishtank I'd converted to hold them. Then they'd get fed with bugs and flies I caught around the house.
Catching a lizard is pretty hard. The first thing you have to do is avoid the things that live in the same places that lizards live. Things like scorpions, spiders and leeches.
Then you have to spot the lizard. They like to sit on flat surfaces that are exposed to the sun.
Then you have to creep up slowly, making sure your shadow doesn't fall across your prey. And here's where you face the most difficult part of the challenge: are you close enough to pounce and get the animal? Or can you edge just a little closer without disturbing it and increase your chance of catching it?
The best part about lizards is they don't have a long memory, so if you do stuff up the pounce, they won't be far away. Besides, they need to sit in the sun more than they fear boys with margerine containers.
