Been reading that Jeff Noon book Nik loaned me. It's good. Reminds me more of Kim Newman more than anything, though. Which is far from a bad thing. Most people would be familiar with Kim from either his various cameos in Sandman comics, or from his Games Workshop novels under the name Jack Yoevil. He's a good writer of pulp horror and fantasy who just happens to be friends with Neil Gaiman.
Anyway, all the hyperbole about Noon being like Lewis Carroll is just laziness from critics. They see the fact he's written stories about Carroll's most famous creation and make the most obvious link. Plus they know it'll get them on the covers.
Noon's good, and his stuff in an interesting read. But he's not that good.
