Time for a story, boys and girls. It's about this zen master. He was trying to seek a greater state of enlightenment. He went around asking everyone. 'How do I reach a greater state of enlightenment?' He journeyed and asked a wise monk who sat on a hill. The monk seemed to avoid the question. On the first day monk answered 'tomorrow you will be closer to the answer'. This didn't satisfy the master. He returned to the monk the next day, and again was told 'tomorrow you will be closer to the answer.' On the third day the monk grew annoyed because he had a really neat book he wanted to read, so he answered 'Listen to the animals for the answer.'
So the zen master went to the animals. First he asked the tiger. The tiger ate an antelope. The master did not think that the answer. So the master asked a monkey. The monkey screamed and threw feces at the master. The master did not think that the answer. Finally the master asked the mudcrab. The mudcrab was captured and eaten my some villagers. The master did not think that the answer.
The master grew so annoyed that he swore and sat down in the mud, angry and yelled at the woods, 'I might as well be asking myself!'
At which time the master realised that he was only seeking his own approval, thinking he would get it from other people. That's all he had needed all along. He sat in the mud grinning until he cramped up and had to move.
