On the subject of magic, no one nomally believes in it. But on Saturday, along with six other men, I was a symbolic coffin bearer. We didn't carry the coffin because it was on some trolley the undertaker brought with him. And we didn't lead it to a grave, we just pushed it into the hearse at the end of the service because the crematorium wasn't open until today.
So what's going on here? We performed a ritual designed to see the spirit safely from this world to the next. It's all the male heirs guarding the mourners from what's in the coffin, making sure it goes where it's supposed to. And we all did it without question. Course magic doesn't exist.
