Mum and Dad just got back. They've been visiting the local gossip, who just happens to be one of Mum's best friends. The number one news item in this town is of course the disease outbreak. I think it was five or six people got it in a town of ten thousand. And there were 1500 people immunised against it over the weekend, lots of them from out of town or pretending to be in the age group getting the vaccinations for free.
The people who got infected were all in the same night club before they were admitted to hospitals around the state that could handle thier cases. Since that happened, the nightclub has been barely populated, which is even more of an abberation since it's Portland's only nightspot and getting to the middle of summer.
But the most aggravating thing is that since Portland's such a small town, everyone knows who works there and they have been actively shunned since the outbreak. Nevermind that the bacteria that causes the illness needs a living host, and that it's incubation period is relatively speedy only taking a few days in most cases. I guess flesh-eating diseases make people act irrationally.
