Why the hell do you have 'research trees' in real time strategy games. I'll tell you why: because the people behind the first rts games ripped off an idea from Civilization and stuck it in thier games without thinking much about it. It doesn't make sense. Play Starcraft. Go the Protoss. In one of the maps, 'research' second level offence. Complete that map then continue onto the next map in a campaign storyline. Suddenly I have to 'research' what I 'researched' earlier. Why the hell can't I just download the blueprints from the mothership or whatever the fuck and go on a rampage of Zealotry? If we had to rediscover stuff everytime we moved a little over on the map, humankind would still be eating bugs and throwing feces at alien photographers. What I'm referring to is not really that much of a problem. So what they call it 'researching'? It could be taken to mean something else. When I was playing Protoss I really did imagine that I was getting the plans from somewhere because it made so much more sense. The problem lies in the fact that the rts genre is stale because people aren't paying attention to the games they're making. They miss details like this, too intent on following a formula to actually make sense. Anyway. End rant here. Make rocket go now.
