Tonight when I was feeling shithouse I sat down and watched SBS for a while. There was a documentary on about the Holocaust. Specifically, it was about how civilians and police in occupied territories murdered Jews in unofficial pogroms before the Holocaust became German state policy. It had the usual eyewitness accounts. But it showed a hell of a lot of footage and photos taken at the time. There was film of rooms filled with corpses, people being beaten to death, people being shot, one was taken secretly by partisans of a child and mother being seperated before they were to be killed. There was a series of photos of a crowd being beaten to death, one by one, by a man with a crowbar. The man describing the images, a German soldier who had been behind the camera, said he was horrified. He wanted to stop this person with the crowbar, but the crowd was too big. He described how the young man, his killing done, took out a harmonica and began to play his national anthem. It's one of the craziest things I've honestly ever heard.
And I'm lying on my bed feeling headachy and in pain from over-eating. But I didn't change the channel or turn it off. I dunno why. I didn't need to see any of it, didn't want to watch. I turned it off after the show ended.
