Personally I think Taxi Driver would have been a better film overall without the climax. I was thinking this lying in bed earlier. If the movie just ended where he loses it at the rally.The whole film builds up this tension where you're watching Travis go about his life and you slowly realise that he's out of his mind. This teeth-grinding tension builds up, but when it gets released it's on this unreal firefight that seems as if the screenplay's author couldn't resist letting the thing write itself there. It's a let down. Just my opinion, anyway. And I'll probably disagree with it in six months time.
