There's an area in baldur's gate II where you have to answer a set of riddles in order to prove you've of a sound mind and able to be released from this asylum you've been thrown in. The riddles are taken from another computer roleplaying game, Betrayl at Krondor. Interesting because I loved that game too, and it suffered from the same problems Baldur's Gate does. They both are based on rich background material that existed before the game, and they both have clunky, visible and irrational systems of gameplay. It's a pity Baldur's Gate had to be based upon the AD&D rules. I spent a tonne of time playing AD&D but it was designed for pen and paper, balancing complexity with ease of use. It doesn't make sense to have it in a computer game where you can keep the workings of the game hidden. Just my thoughts.
