Been playing the Deus Ex demo and damn that game's good. Reminds me a lot of Theif: the Dark Project, which isn't a suprise because I think the designer for both games was the same person. They're good in different ways, though. Theif was cool when I was walking down a darkened corridor and turned and there's this guard around the corner looking right at me and I jump out of my seat because I wasn't expecting it. It was also fun being chased by a mess of guards and jumping into a fast moving drain to be carried away from them. I guess they weren't being paid enough to get thier stupid asses wet.
I guess what they have in common is the freedom they afford. You don't have to do things in a linear way to succeed. Breaking into the house in Theif feels as close as it could to doing the real thing. I loved discovering you could break in by climbing up the outer wall then jumping onto the roof then falling onto a balcony.
